August 2015 Special Clearwater Edition

July 11, 2015, was a day of grand openings in Clearwater, Florida. The Scientology religion’s ecclesiastical leader, David Miscavige, welcomed thousands of residents to the re-opening of the August 2015 Special Clearwater Edition, an historic bank structure that will now be a “come on in” information center for the religion. Adjoining that building are six buildings that are now headquarters for humanitarian and social betterment groups supported by Scientology. “If all of us pitch in, we can fix a lot of problems,” Mr. Miscavige said in an interview. Gesturing at the newly opened buildings: “Here are some tools for us to use.”

Looking Good, Clearwater

A great city must—yes, absolutely must—have citizens who believe in each other, who will work together to solve problems, who know that diversity isn’t an obstacle, it’s a necessity. The viewpoints of the multitude are all heard with respect, and consensus is the fuel that energizes progress.

A Few Thousand Years From Now

Can a single person tackle all of the real dilemmas facing the world? For the United States? How about just Florida? If not any of those, could a person or group—or, perhaps, a religion—chip away at big problems in, say, the Tampa Bay area and right here in Clearwater? And could enough people staking out problem-solving beachheads around the world, including Clearwater, start to make a difference?

Open Doors To a Better World

“True, Scientologists are, because of their religion, motivated to help others, and they do contribute greatly to the community. But as we grow our responsibility grows, and it has become clear that the Church can and must lend its considerable weight to tackling the most daunting challenges facing Clearwater and Florida.”

Drug-Free World

Don’t Be Fooled: Get Facts About Drugs

It is an approach with proven results. More than 1,000 organizations, law enforcement and government agencies in 180 countries have incorporated The Truth About Drugs in their drug-education programs. Among them is the Police Department of Ocala, Florida, whose website www.ocalapd.com links to a series of drug education videos that are part of the program.

Human Rights

Human Rights, A Universal Solution

“The United Nations came up with the answer. An absence of human rights stained the hands of governments and threatened their rules. Very few governments have implemented any part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These governments have not grasped that their very survival depends utterly upon adopting such reforms and thus giving their people a cause, a civilization worth supporting, worth their patriotism.”

The Way to Happiness

Ethics & Morality Equal Happiness

Mr. Hubbard’s notes from this era point to a “depowering” of the human spirit and a hopeless compulsion towards “oblivion.” He compared the cultural crisis in the United States to fourth-century Rome, and when asked about his impression of life in Manhattan, replied that he felt as if “on an island that had been destroyed by some superior force.”

Criminon

There Are Solutions To Crime

The Criminon program has given me the opportunity to effectively help others become what they’ve always wanted to be—a responsible, trustworthy, dependable part of their family, home and community. I now have an unquenchable desire to help all prisoners be a success and to stay out of prison once they get out.”

Citizens Commission on Human Rights

Stronghold for Human Dignity

“Between 1950 and 1990, more Americans died in U.S. government-funded psychiatric facilities than were killed in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War combined.”

Volunteer Ministers

Scientology Volunteers Get The Job Done

Overall, 350 Volunteer Ministers served in the Haiti relief effort. Coming from 22 nations, they delivered 260,000 pounds of emergency material and medical supplies and became a stable point for other relief efforts. “When the other people came,” says Robinson, “I’ll tell you who they met. They met the guys in yellow jackets.”

The Way to Happiness

Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities. But there is only one person who for certain can tell what will make one happy—oneself
