Freedom Exposé

Point Man

Following a series of combat tours in the Persian Gulf, Chuck Amedia returned to America a victim of the VA’s indiscriminate pill pushing. It left him drug-dependent, wheelchair-bound and mentally impaired. Then he got back on his feet, literally, and with a bold lawsuit became a point man in the battle against overdrugging of veterans and opened the door for change. The larger question Amedia’s story raises is to what degree has the VA been bought off by greedy psychopharmaceutical interests?

It’s About Time

With Freedom, the Scientology religion speaks through journalism—to its own growing membership, and a broader audience. Topics that reflect the Church’s ideals and its mission are presented in a way that informs and engages a diverse readership. We dig into important social issues that mainstream media tend to avoid, or gloss over.

News Briefs

Republican Presidential candidate Rick Perry sparked immediate backlash from Big Pharma when on June 19 he suggested that a history with psychiatric drugs might have contributed to the deranged behavior of South Carolina mass murderer Dylan Roof.

War, On Drugs

Military personnel and veterans suffering from the ill‐defined and nonspecific “Post‐Traumatic Stress Disorder” are often prescribed potentially lethal psychiatric drugs that are disproportionately associated with violence and suicide.

Cure This

Once upon a time, several psychiatrists and psychologists set up a hospital, Anclote Manor, in the quaint west coast Florida hamlet of Tarpon Springs. Despite years of fluffy, softball-pitch articles in the local daily newspaper, Anclote in the late 1970s was revealed as a “medieval house of horror,” according to a state prosecutor.

Unreported Casualties

We see the staggering numbers, and yet somehow they don’t shock us nearly as much as they should.

Nation

Bring Them Home

Innovative, community-based programs aimed at ending homelessness among veterans are not only meeting, but exceeding their goals.

Into the Field

Nobody’s Free

A new round of investment to modernize America’s nuclear arsenal threatens to lock in a new global arms race—at a taxpayer cost of $1 trillion.

Massimo Introvigne

Jennifer Lankheim talks with sociologist Massimo Introvigne, founder and managing director of the Turin, Italy-based Center for the Study of New Religions, about the intersection of art, freedom of belief and religion.

Tangled Terms

In their anxiety to keep their failures explained while they ask congresses, parliaments and legislatures for more millions to put in their pockets, psychiatry continually redefines key words relating to the mind.

What is Scientology?

The Time Track

In Dianetics, L. Ron Hubbard states that the purpose of the mind is to solve problems relating to survival.
