He thought he was having a heart attack. He thought he might die.

Still a young man—a college sports star with a bright future ahead as boss of the thriving family auto repair business—Jimmy Alauria’s life was nevertheless a nightmare. Anxiety shadowed him night and day, leaving him exhausted and disconnected from anything that once brought him happiness.

Doctors could find nothing wrong, and told him to take drugs to numb the panic attacks.

“Scientology brought me up through the toughest time in my life.”

Finding Scientology was like flinging open the curtains after years in the dark, he explains. Jimmy’s world flooded with clarity, purpose and light. He knew where the anxiety came from and he knew he could wrestle it down to nothing.

“I was present and there and focused and had energy and excitement about the business and [could] take things to the next level,” he remembers.

Jimmy indeed took the family business to the next level, and the next, ultimately making the repair shop a community hub—a place for mentorship and opportunity, where each year a local leader—a pastor, charity worker or community champion—is celebrated for selfless dedication to others.

His wife Nadine calls him “the visionary,” adding that he sets the company’s goals and keeps everyone focused. “And our business allows us to have positive effects that ripple out,” she says.

“Scientology brought me up through the toughest time in my life and now the future is really bright,” Jimmy says. “I’m now creating my life the way I want it with the people that I want to be with.”
